Veolia Transport commits to the environment through the "Keep CO2L" campaign

To coincide with World Environment Day, Veolia Transport, with the backing of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), proposes to its clients the "Eco-Efficient Travel TM" indicator from the Environmental Management System implemented by Veolia Environnement since 2001.

Introduced in 2006, the "Eco-Efficient Travel TM" indicator measures the performances of public transportation in terms of CO2 avoided, atmospheric pollution avoided, private cars avoided, fuel not consumed, money saved by the passenger, and so on, per-passenger carried and compared with private cars. The methodology of this indicator has been certified by Ernst & Young.

Based on this indicator, Veolia Transport is going to offer local public authorities an educational kit entitled "Keep CO2L" that will enable them to announce the results of these calculations using various media aimed at passengers: an eco-calculator on the transportation system's web site, eco-calculations on the system's display screens, posters inside vehicles and in stations, eco-calculations on tickets and schedules, etc. The aim is to build passengers' awareness of the impact of their travel patterns and the benefits of public transportation.

The "Luas" light rail system in Dublin will be the first to launch this campaign.

By publishing the results of its "Eco-Efficient Travel TM" indicator, Veolia Transport is underlining the role of public transportation in environmental respect, financial savings, quality of life and public health, and assisting its transit authority clients in knowing the environmental impact of their transit system.

Veolia Transport is the first operator to have available such wide-ranging, detailed information of this kind.
