Integrated environmental services management: example of an industrial contract
East of France, PSA-Peugeot Citroën together with Veolia Environnement develop a benefic integrated management of environmental services
Under a contract between Veolia Environnement and PSA-Peugeot Citroën covering plants in the east of France (Sochaux, Mulhouse, Vesoul), integrated management of environmental services allowed the full benefit of the synergies between Veolia's areas of expertise to contribute to PSA' economic and environmental performance.
Sense, a dedicated operator, took over the services previously managed by PSA, to allow the company to refocus on its core activity. The services covered several areas such as the production and distribution of energy and fluids, cleaning, industrial waste disposal, water treatment, management of railways and more specific activities such as store management, restorables, etc. Commitment to results was made over the full range of services, such as achieving 25% savings over five years and optimising energy performance.
Energy is a key area for the contract: €19 million of work was undertaken to improve performance, make savings and prepare for developments in regulations to reduce CO2.
Investment in redesign of the energy system and training in greener driving techniques should produce 20% energy savings in five years and reduce sulphur dioxide emissions by 76%, nitrogen oxides by 39% and dust by 67%. More than 1,000 staff members have been re-engaged to date: 98% of Sense's staff is from PSA. PSA's production is optimised thanks to the implementation of new resources such as the 24 hour Call Centre guaranteeing immediate response for any problems affecting production flow.
