Veolia Environnement wins Alpha award for best report on diversity

For the first year, the International Meeting on Diversity in Corsica has awarded companies in the CAC 40 index for the exemplary quality of their treatment of diversity as revealed in their annual report on CSR, Corporate Social Responsibility.

During the fifth International Meeting on Diversity which took place on 1 October 2009 in Corsica, Veolia Environnement received the award for best communication about diversity.

The CSR reports by the 40 companies in the CAC 40 index were analysed by the Alpha consultancy company and the awards were allocated according to the quality of communication (reliable, plausible, supported by figures, non-commercial).

As a result of the organisation's work on'The Challenges of Diversity' carried out with the Alpha Group (whose research centre has analysed all CSR reports by CAC 40 companies for the last five years) and in partnership with various academic and professional institutions, a reference tool of 33 indicators was developed and used for these first Alpha awards.

For Veolia Environnement, the factor which particularly drew the attention was communication on gender equality.
The Group provided information supported by figures and explanations on two sensitive areas: remuneration and access by women to positions of responsibility. It also refers to its intention to continue its efforts despite evident difficulties.

'On this occasion, I have to congratulate all the teams which have contributed to the winning of this award, particularly the Social Reporting and Social Cohesion teams at Human Resources, with the assistance of the departments of Communication and Sustainable Development, all taking particular care to promote our diversity and our historic social model of equal opportunities', declared Véronique Rouzaud, Director of Human Resources within the Group.

The other CAC 40 companies receiving an Alpha award were Accor, BNP Paribas and L'Oréal.

Veolia Environnement is also a candidate for the 'France Diversity Label' with a progressive plan to work towards a label, starting with the board and followed by each of its divisions.
