Challenges
We communicate our vision on our most important challenges and we make a commitment to research and taking action that combines realism and responsibility, to better meet the expectations of our stakeholders.
Combating climate change
In 2008, the facilities and equipment Veolia Environnement managed contributed around one thousandth of the world'sgreenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, or a total of 47.2 million metric tons equivalent CO2.
Biodiversity
Human activity can alter natural environments and disturb their fauna and flora. Deterioration in water, air and soil quality interferes with the way ecosystems work and therefore the benefits people obtain from them.
Management of our own impacts
In all of its activities, the Group generates impacts on the environment, over which the degree of control determines its level of responsibility.
Health and lifestyle
Urban hygiene and a reduction of diffuse pollutions, contribute to keeping a healthy and balanced environment that protects everyone's wellbeing. Environmental health is an important aspect of Veolia Environnement's businesses.
Access to essential services
These are defined as vital services essential for a dignified and decent life. Although frequently mentioned in the context of the developing world, the problem of access to these services is also an issue for urban services management in the developed world.
Fundamental social rights
Every employee has fundamental social rights, regardless of their qualification level and the country in which they perform their activity.
Social attractiveness
At end 2008, Veolia Environnement employed 336,013 people, with nearly two thirds outside France.
