Veolia Environmental Services North America has joined the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX)

Veolia Environmental Services North America has committed to reduce its own emissions by 6% between now and 2010, in respect to the average level of emissions recorded between 1998 and 2001.

Chicago Climate Exchange

Veolia Environmental Services North America has just joined the CCX : the only legally binding program of exchange of emission permits green house gases in North America.

Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX) is a private and voluntary initiative started in 2003. CCX Members (currently nearly 300 members: private companies, American states, universities, NGOs...), make a voluntary but legally binding commitment to meet annual GHG emission reduction targets. Those who reduce below the targets have surplus allowances to sell or bank; those who emit above the targets comply by purchasing CCX Carbon Financial Instrument® (CFI™) contracts, the commodity traded at CCX (each CFI contract represents 100 metric tons of CO2 equivalent).

To comply with their commitment, CCX members can purchase offsets generated by qualifying offset projects, based in the United States or in cooperation with Brazil.
