Veolia Environmental Services (VES) Hampshire's Materials Recovery Facilities (MRFs) are two of the first recyclable waste facilities that have been accredited to the new Recycling Registration Scheme in November 2007.

In Hampshire, the two facilities process up to 157,000 tonnes of dry recyclables each year. Veolia Environmental Services (VES) Hampshire's MRFs have been accredited to the new Recycling Registration Scheme (RRS) in November 2007. The RRS accreditation proves the high quality of the materials produced

The MRFs in Alton and Portsmouth, sort recyclables which are collected from households throughout the county: combined, they handle up to 157,000 tonnes of paper, card, cardboard, food and drink cans and plastic bottles each year.

The RRS audits the facility to ensure that it operates to recognised standards so that customers and the general public can have confidence that their waste is being handled and processed responsibly and that the resulting material is used and actually recycled into new products.

Gavin Graveson, Managing Director for Veolia ES Hampshire said: "I am very pleased that our two MRFs have gained accreditation with this registration scheme. With the market increasingly served by municipal waste streams of recyclable material, that we can supply a proven higher quality material means we stand out from the crowd."

Although Veolia ES Hampshire, through Project Integra, generally do not export materials, this scheme allows better auditing and tracking of recyclates. The scheme also means they are serving UK markets with materials which conform to the higher European specifications.
