Veolia Transport NSW drives towards cleaner air in Australia !

Veolia Transport NSW, part of Veolia Transport Australia, is the first in its field to be officially recognised as environmentally responsible by an important local authority.

Providing bus services in the southern and southwest suburbs of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, Veolia Transport NSW, has a fleet of more than 260 buses with more than 500 staff. It provides more than 12 million passenger journeys a year.

In September 2007, the company was accredited to Clean Fleet, a vehicle maintenance program, designed to improve air quality by reducing diesel vehicle emissions. The initiative has been developed by the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) as part of its continuing commitment to the environment. The RTA is the NSW State Government agency responsible for: Improving road safety; testing and licensing drivers and registering and inspecting vehicles; and managing the road network to achieve consistent travel times.

Since commencing in 1999, Veolia Transport NSW has adapted its operations to meet growing environmental concerns, acknowledging that transport is a large contributor to fine particle pollution.

"Reducing our fleet's emissions has been a key goal, so we're very proud to be the first NSW bus company to be accredited to Clean Fleet," Mark Harbridge, Maintenance Manager of Veolia Transport NSW said. "It's great to be publicly recognised for our commitment to the environment."

In order to qualify for Clean Fleet, Veolia Transport NSW has to comply with four major Emission Management Standards. These include: meeting fuel quality standards; complying with engine specifications; adhering to maintenance schedules; and fourthly, identifying and repairing faults.

Veolia Transport NSW has also seen the financial benefits of reduced costs since being credited into the Clean Fleet. The Veolia fleet now require less maintenance, experience fewer breakdowns, have better fuel consumption, and have improved vehicle reliability.
